Your recordings
stay yours.

Umbral’s developer does not collect your recordings, markers or settings. The app processes and stores session data locally, without developer-operated servers.

The iPhone app

Umbral runs offline. The app does not connect to a server and contains no analytics SDKs, third-party SDKs, advertisements or advertising identifiers. There are no accounts.

Microphone recording is not available in this version. Umbral does not request microphone permission or capture your voice. Session recordings contain only the app’s audio output and effects.

A location name you enter for a session is a label stored with that session. Umbral does not request or collect your device’s location.

Storage & deletion

Session recordings, markers and settings are stored in the app’s private storage on your device. They remain there until you delete them or remove the app.

If you enable iCloud Backup or make a device backup, Apple’s backup system may include this data. Backup copies are managed through Apple’s backup settings.

Deleting a session removes its local recording and temporary share copies. It does not delete separately shared files or copies in existing device backups.

Sharing clips

When you choose to share a clip, Umbral supplies a temporary copy through the iOS share sheet to the destination you select. Umbral removes its temporary copy after sharing or dismissal.

A copy saved or sent through another app is governed by that app’s settings and privacy policy. Umbral’s developer does not receive it unless you choose to send it to me.

Apple diagnostics & purchases

If you opt in to sharing analytics with developers in iOS Settings, Apple may provide crash and usage diagnostics. Apple also processes App Store purchases and provides store sales reports. These services are governed by Apple’s privacy policy.

Umbral does not collect your payment details or add its own usage tracking.

This website & support

This website is hosted on Vercel. It contains no advertising, analytics scripts or tracking cookies. The hosting provider processes technical request information, such as an IP address and browser information, to deliver and secure the site. See Vercel’s privacy policy.

If you email support, I receive your email address and anything you include in your message. I use that information to respond and investigate your request. Support email is handled through Gmail, subject to Google’s privacy policy.

You may request deletion of your support correspondence by emailing me. I do not use support messages for marketing.
